The GDRD is an independent California special district
approved by voters in 1988. Our goals are to develop a community park
in each established community as well as a regional park complex. The
GDRD is a rural area of El Dorado County. The "Divide," as it's
commonly called, is a landmass dividing the north and south forks of the
American River in the California Sierra foothills. It covers 412 square
miles and has a population of approximately 13,400.

From Memory to Memoir: Writing Your Life History Summer Session May 29 thru July 3 Each Wednesday 1-3pm Greenwood Community Center 55 yrs and older Tuition $30
This is a six week, two hour workshop designed to motivate
and assist participates in recording the stories of their lives for their
children and grandchildren.
During the six-week workshop, participants will look at ways
of organizing their life stories for writing; they will share ideas about this
topic from current books. The group will also discuss items or articles that
stimulate memory and nurture creativity. We will review techniques used in
fiction that can enhance their story telling. Each session will begin with a
germane topic or with a discussion of the group's progress and problems.
Participants will come away with greater writing mastery and
a belief in their ability to write their personal narrative. They will be
familiar with the process of getting their work self-published in book or
journal form. Since this is intended to be an ongoing workshop of six-week
sessions with two-week breaks between, participants will have the ability to
share their writing and publishing process for as long as they choose.
